Brief?

Field of study: How will the project communicate your critical/industrial intent or direction?

I aim to undertake a mixed media project, with a focus on ink painting, collage and Adobe InDesign. I would like to communicate my intent through an experimental set of posters/art pieces and a zine.

Brief: What is the problem you are aiming to solve or communicate?

With the zine I would like to communicate a bit about my own life and experience as a person of very mixed background and an immigrant in the UK. I would like to think of this project as a reflection on myself, by looking a bit into my own extensive family and its cultural and religious practices. Moreover, my experience as an immigrant is not a common or exciting one, but I believe a lot of people will be able to connect to that experience, and I would like to connect with them and be able to pour some feelings out on the topic.

Aims and Objectives: What do you hope to achieve by the end of this project?

By the end of the project I hope to be able to capture and preserve my experience and reflect on what it all means to me. As we come to the end of the second year, I will also be coming to the end of technically being a foreigner in the UK as I submit my application for citizenship. Though a passport doesn’t change much, I want to reflect and explore what my identity is and will be.

Who will find the outcomes useful or interesting?

I hope that a wide range of people will find my work thought provoking at the very least, but most of all I hope that there are those out there in a similar situation as me debating their sense of belonging in a foreign (or not so foreign anymore) country that will be able to find comfort and maybe even some inspiration in this outcome.
